For today, I wanted to share with you “M’Ackô“, a deep downtempo melancholic Afro Electro Synth Soul Boogie track from Ivory Coast, taken from the 2nd album of the Ivorian Diva Antoinette Konan & Self-released in 1986.

Alongside to Antoinette for the composition & production of the tracks, this LP includes some great musicians as Bamba Moussa Yang (arrangements) & the mythical Congolese composer & musician Sammy Massamba.

Following to this former article, I wanted to share with you for today “Homin Si Tche“, an uplifting 70s funky 11min long Afro Soul Soukous from Benin with catchy horns, furious guitar rhythm & Soukous flavors, taken from one of my favorite albums of the mythical “Tout Puissant Orchestre Poly Rythmo De Cotonou“, recorded in 1978 at the mythical EMI Studios in Lagos (Nigeria), with the help of the legendary sound engineer Monday Oki, and released in Benin on the famous local record label “Albarika Store”.

Instant feel-good beninese Funky Soukous as only the almighty Poly Rythmo can play, hope you’ll like it – Enjoy !

For today, I wanted to share with you “Meaculpa Mawewe“, a bouncy joyful tropical Afro Soukous Funky Rumba Soul track from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC, former Zaïre), taken from the sole album of the Congolese composer & musician André “Zorro” Lumingu Puati, recorded in Nigeria in 1979 on the legendary label “Tabansi“.

This album features great musicians from Congo, Nigeria & Cameroon as :

Messi Martin & Los Camaroes – Ndeg Meyok

Following this former post, I wanted to share with you “Ndeg Meyok“, a bouncy syncopated psychedelic 70s Afro Soukous Soul track from Cameroon with furious Balafon (drums) & guitar parts, taken from an ultra hard to find single recorded in the late 70s by the mythical Cameroonian musician Messi Martin & backed by his legendary band “Los Camaroes” formed in the 60s in the city of Maroua, in the extreme north region of Cameroon.

It included some of the finest musicians of that era : Jean Gabari, Johnny Cosmos, Sala Bekono, Mpoudi Emmanuel, Jean-Marie Ngoembang, Kwanga Roger or Paul Bingue.

For today, I wanted to share with you “Nakombe Nga“, a killer Afro Synth Soul Funk track from Congo with proto House Music flavors, taken from an album recorded in Belgium in the late 80s by the legendary Congolese band “Les Choc Stars du Zaire” founded in 1983 by the composer & musician Ben Nyamabo and that recored dozen & dozen of albums & singles.

This album includes some of the bests Congolese musicians, such :

Bass : Bolenge Djo Mali, Jerry Lema ;

Drums : Djudjuchet Luvengoka ;

Lead Guitar – Roxy Tshimpaka, Sos Watondo ;

Rhythm Guitar : Carrol Makhamba, Sos Watondo ;

Following that former article, I wanted to share with you for today “Angara“, a catchy syncopated Afro Elak Soukous Funky Soul track with Bikutsi rhythm influences, taken from one of the numerous singles recorded in the 70s by the mythical Cameroonian band “Los Camaroes” leaded by the composer, musician & singer Messi Martin, and out on the legendary French Record label “Sonafric” – Enjoy !

To notice : I’ve released on Nubiphone (one of my 2 reissue record labels) in 2019 a compilation highlighting the amazing work of this band. Some copies are still available here (or PM !).

For today, I wanted to share with you “Komba“, an instant catchy Afro Electronic Digital Soukous Funk track sung in Lingala (Congolese vernacular langage) with dope drum machines using, taken from the only album privately recorded in 1987 in Paris (France) by the mysterious composer & musician Charlston Marquis and that features legendary musical figures from Cameroon & Democratic Republic Of Congo (former Zaïre) such :

Vocals, Synthesizer, Percussion, Drum Programming, Arrangements : Charlston Marquis ;

Drum Programming : Charlston Marquis, Olivier Marot ;

Guitar : Boleta N’Zeza, Nya Soleil ;

To notice : this track has the same bass line as the track “Ennemi” by the Cameroonian composer Mister Bibi (listen here) recorded and released also in the 80s.. Just a musical coincidence ? Who’s inspired who ? We’ll never know !

For today, I wanted to share with you “Arangomo“, an frantic Afro Soukous Soul Funky track that begins as a straight Rumba to quickly go wild, recorded by the obscure Congolese band “Orchestre Inoccupa Du Zaire” (any further informations welcomed !), that seemed to have recorded only recorded 2 singles including that one, released in 1976 on the French record label “Authentic’Music“.

Personal favorite, always a dance floor burner when I play it in my DJ Sets – Enjoy !
