Le Sahel – Caridad (Senegal, 1975, Musiclub)

Following this former article, I wanted to share with you for today “Caridad“, an incredible beautiful Afro Latin Mbalax Soul track, taken from the only album by “L’Orchestre Du Sahel“, house band of the night club “Le Sahel” in Dakar (Senegal) owned by the businessman Ndiouga Kobe and founded in 1972 by the composer and musician Cheikh Tidiane Tall.

Open to various musical styles, le Sahel offered a music mixing African sounds (Mbalax, Pulaar Fulani music, Mandingo music), and included legendary Senegalese musicians, former members of the mythical band “Xalam” founded in 1965 by Sakhir Thiam, such :

Willy Sakho (Bass) ;

Alassane N’Doye (Congas) ;

Diguy Diabate (Drums) ;

Thierno Koité (Flute, Saxophone) ;

Lord Cobra And Panafro – Colon Colon (Panama, 1979, Tamayo)

For today, I wanted to share with you “Colon Colon“, a gorgeous melancholic Tropical Latin Calypso Soul track with sweet Island Reggae flavors & bewitching guitar parts, recorded on the 30 of November 1970 by the mythical Panamanian producer, composer & musician Wilfred Methusiel Berry Gonin better known as “Lord Cobra“, one of the most important calypsonians, not only in Panama but throughout the Caribbean, standing out as a troubadour and as a composer.

Among dozens of pieces he composed, we can mention “Banana”, “The Man with the Big Suitcase” and the famous “Baptism”.

This track (my favorite from this artist by far !) was released on the mythical owned by the legendary producer Rodrigo De Jesús Escobar Tamayo – Hope you’ll like it, enjoy !

Gustave Gbenou “G. G.” Vikey – Je Vous Remercie (Benin, 1976, Riviera Afrique)

For today, I wanted to share with you “Je Vous Remercie” (“I thank you”), a splendid Afro Soul Acoustic Folk track driven by beautiful guitar parts and with Latin flavors, taken from the first album recorded in 1976 by the Beninese guitarist & composer Gustave Gbenou “G.G.” Vikey on “Riviera Afrique“, the legendary African focused sub-label of “Riviera“, the well-known French record label owned by the mythical composer & musician Gilles Sala.

This song is dedicated to all of you dear followers (5000 subscribers on Youtube & 2000 on Instagram !), thank you for your kind support & beautiful messages since the beginning of this blog in June 2010 – 14 years of sharing with you tons of musical rediscoveries, vinyl selections & record digging trips all over the world !

Michel Boyibanda & L’Orchestre OK Jazz – Ven Y Ven Y Ven (Democratic Republic of the Congo, 1970s, Pathé Marconi)

Following this previous post, I wanted to share with you for today “Ven Y Ven Y Ven“, a timeless standard of the latin musical repertoire initially recorded in 1965 by the composer Johnny Pacheco (Dominican Republic), and covered here in a killer sweet top notch Afro Latin Salsa version, recorded in the 70s by the Congolese (former Zaïre) composer & singer Michel Boyibanda and backed by the mythical orchestra “OK Jazz” founded by the legendary François “Franco” Luambo Makiadi.

Following this former article, I wanted to share with you for today “Fatou“, an Afro Cuban Latin Jazz Soul masterpiece, initially recorded in the 70s by the legendary Guinean singer Amara Touré on the mythical record label Sonafric, re-interprated in 1984 in a gorgeous alternate superior version by Amara & the Gabonese band “Orchestre Massako” with sublime saxophone & piano parts (the version presented in this article), during the few years he spent in Libreville (Gabon) – Enjoy !

Henri Guedon Et Les Contesta – Bilongo (Martinique, 1972, Aux Ondes)

Following this former post, I wanted to share with you for today « Bilongo », an outstanding Tropical Guaguanco Salsa Latin track from the French West Indies (Martinique), taken from the first album of the legendary musician, painter, sculptor and ceramist Henri Guedon, considered as the grandfather of modern music from French Antilles, and backed by his band « La Contesta ».

This record came out in 1972 on the record label « Aux Ondes », subdivision of the mythical West Indian record company « Celini Disques » – Enjoy !
