For today, I wanted to share with you “Lo Siento“, an outstanding Guaracha Latin Soul Jazz track, taken from the second album recorded by the Haitian composer & musicien Gary French and his “Tropical Sextet” band, that included the following musicians :

– Carlos Ramirez : Organ & Piano ;

– Jean Thomas Donnay : Saxophone ;

– Emmanuel “Manno” Mathieu : Bass ;

– Michel Corvington : Guitar ;

– Patrick “Pat” Coby : Percussions ;

– Jacques Succes : Drummer ;

One of my favorite album from Haïti, full of many solid tracks of different musical genres – Enjoy !

Henri Guedon – Karma

Following this former article, I wanted to share with you for today “Karma“, an outstanding blend of Cadence Soul Funk Latin Synth Jazz & Fusion influences, taken from the 3rd album recorded in 1975 by the mythical musician, painter, sculptor and ceramist Henri Guedon from Martinique, considered by most as the grandfather of modern music from French West Indies.

This album includes :

– Henri Guedon : Leader, Lead Vocals, Agogô, Cowbell, Kalimba, Spoons, Helicon, Skratjie, Percussion, Handclaps, Guimbarde, Bombo, Balafon ;

– Fabien Bannet : Backing Vocals, Guiro, Maracas, Claves ;

– Alain Delos : Congas, Percussion, Wood Block ;

– Claude Vamur : Percussion (Tambou Ka, Latigo), Drums, Timbales, Bongos ;

– Alfred Varasse : Percussion [Tiboi], Drums, Bata, Cowbell ;

– Michel Pacquit : Piano, Piano, Electric Piano (Fender Piano) ;

– Jacky Bernard : Synthesizer, Bass, Organ, Vibraphone ;

Malavoi – Madjoumbé

For today, I wanted to share with you “Madjoumbé“, an uplifting Tropical Cadence Biguine Jazz Soul track from the French West Indies with Latin flavors, recorded in 1975 by the legendary band Malavoi, initially from the city of Fort-de-France (Martinique) but that will later includes musicians from Guadeloupe.

Still active today, the band is known for its strings sections (violin & cello), & was founded at the end of the 60s by Jean-Paul Soïme, Emmanuel “Mano” Cesaire, Christian de Negri, Denis Dantin & Marcel Rémion.

This LP features :

Jean-Marc Albicy (Bass Guitar) ;

André Saint-Prix (Congas) ;

Paul Rosine (Electric Piano : Fender Rhodes) ;

Bib Monville (Saxophone) ;

Paul Petit-Frere (Trombone, Trumpet) ;

Christian De Négri (Violin) ;

Maurice Marie-Louise, Raphaël Rimbaud (Vocals) ;

The group was called “Malavoi” in reference to a variety of sugar cane and a street in the island of Goree (Senegal) from where African former slaves were sent to Americas at the time.

Following this previous post, I wanted to share with you for today “Ven Y Ven Y Ven“, a timeless standard of the latin musical repertoire initially recorded in 1965 by the composer Johnny Pacheco (Dominican Republic), and covered here in a killer sweet top notch Afro Latin Salsa version, recorded in the 70s by the Congolese (former Zaïre) composer & singer Michel Boyibanda and backed by the mythical orchestra “OK Jazz” founded by the legendary François “Franco” Luambo Makiadi.

For today, I wanted to share with you “Yolanda“, a splendid early Afro Latin Salsa track with strong 𝐂𝐮𝐛𝐚𝐧 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐥𝐮𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬, recorded in the 60s by the legendary Nigerian musician 𝐃𝐞𝐱𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐉𝐨𝐡𝐧𝐬𝐨𝐧, a superstar in Dakar at that time, & 𝐋𝐚𝐛𝐚 𝐒𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐡 from 𝐆𝐚𝐦𝐛𝐢𝐚, and backed by the mythical Senegalese band “𝐋𝐞 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐫 𝐃𝐞 𝐃𝐚𝐤𝐚𝐫” – Personal dance floor stormer in the genre, enjoy !

Following this former post, I wanted to share with you for today « Bilongo », an outstanding Tropical Guaguanco Salsa Latin track from the French West Indies (Martinique), taken from the first album of the legendary musician, painter, sculptor and ceramist Henri Guedon, considered as the grandfather of modern music from French Antilles, and backed by his band « La Contesta ».

This record came out in 1972 on the record label « Aux Ondes », subdivision of the mythical West Indian record company « Celini Disques » – Enjoy !

For today, I wanted to share with you “Agnon Djidjo“, an atomic tropical Afro Latin Salsa Funk Cavacha dance floor stormer, taken from the only solo album recorded in 1978 by the legendary composer, guitarist and bass player Bentho Gustave “Titiou”, who began his career in the 60s with the beninese Band “Super Star de Ouidah“.

Shortly after, he founded the almighty “Poly Rhythmo de Cotonou” orchestra in 1968 (formerly “Sunny Blacks Band“) with other mythical musicians such as :

Melome Clement ;

Eskil Lohento ;

Amenoudji Joseph “Vicky” ;

Zoundegnon Bernard “Papillon” ;

Yehouessi Leopold ;

Pierre Loko.

who also all play on the album presented here – Enjoy !
