For today, I wanted  to share with you “I Am A Natural Man“, an excellent psychedelic Afro Funk Rock Stormer from the Wrinkar Experience, one of my fave band of this genre, that was composed the nigerian Dan Ian(vocals and lead guitar) and the cameroonians Edjo’o Jacques Racine (bass & guitar) and Ginger Forcha (organ).

The band only existed six months from 1972 to 1973 before splitting up, & only released three singles produced by the mythical nigerian Odion Iruoje, including the hits “Fuel For Love” & “Soundway” – Enjoy !

OFEGE was a 70s psychedelic Rock band from Nigeria, composed of teenage students of the St. Gregory’s College of Lagos.

Led by Melvin Ukachi & largely influenced by artists such as Carlos Santana, Jeff Beck or Jimmy Page, they recorded 4 albums before splitting up.

For today, I wanted to present you the track “You Say No“, taken from their first album “Try And Love“, full of fuzzy electric guitar solos and Afrobeat-esque drums.

This album was a great musical snap when I found it in Kumba (Western Cameroon) more than a decade ago, and is still one of my favorite African record – Enjoy !

The Identicals – Akwa Kayi Ji Bia Nuwa

( Nigeria , 1977 , EMI Nigeria )

posted on 15 / 02 / 2020
The Identicals was a Nigerian band composed by two twins brothers, Peter (Bass) and Paul (Guitar) State, who played around Lagos clubs and studios (as backing members for other musicians) back in the 70’s.
The song presented here, “Akwa Kayi Ji Bia Nuwa” is taken from their one and only album, “Rock Exponent“, and is a sublime example of the local Psychedelic Afro Rock scene back in the Nigeria of the 70s.
The title of this song could be translated (in Igbo language) as “We Come Into This World Crying” – Enjoy !

Jay U Experience – Baby Rock

Justus “Jay U” Nnakwe is a musician native of the city of Enugu (Nigeria), who played and recorded a few singles with several rock band back in the 70’s, as the mighty Hygrades or P.R.O (People Rock Outfit).

Fan of European and American Heavy Metal and Rock artists such as Black Sabbath, Deep Purple or Led Zeppelin, Justus was really involved into this kind of sound at the time and tried to establish a “Nigerian Heavy Metal music scene”.

The principal result is the awesome album I wanted to present you here, “Enough Is Enough“, his one and only solo album released in 1978 on the mythical “Emi Nigeria” record label, a one of its kind mixture of reggae, jazzy afrobeat and heavy psych rock.

“Baby Rock”, the track selected here, is a devastating Heavy Afro Metal Rock track, with powerful vocals, devilish fuzzy guitar riffs and catchy organ parts – Enjoy !
