Pluto Shervington – I Shot The Sheriff

( Jamaica , 1974 , Wild Flower )

posted on 07 / 08 / 2024

For today, I wanted to share with you “I Shot The Sheriff“, timeless Reggae classic track by the legendary composer & musician Robert Nesta “Bob” Marley, reinterpreted here in a slightly more Soulful Rocksteady way by the Jamaican reggae musician, vocalist, engineer, and producer Leighton Keith “Pluto” Shervington, and taken from his 1st album recorded in 1974 and out on the mythical Jamaican record label “Wild Flower”.

Cherry on the cake : maybe the sole album sleeve from all around the world that features a goat !

Refreshing version, that is my favorite of that cult song, another sweet summer anthem – hope you’ll like it, enjoy !

Derrick Harriott – Black Skin Blue Eyed Boys

Great cover by Derrick Harriott (my favorite rocksteady artist) of this classic song from Eddy Grant and his Equals band !

Derrick Clinton Harriott, born on the 6 February 1939 in Jamaica, is a singer and record producer, who founded the famous Crystal records label.

This version sums up the Jamaican producing skills, mixing together disco, dub and roots music, and is for me a direct answer to the song Disco Devil, by Lee Perry.

Derrick Harriott and The Chariot Riders – Float On

( Jamaica , 1977 , Crystal Records )

For today, I decided to make you rediscover the song “Float On“, originally recorded in 1977 by The Floaters (a band from Detroit), but that the Jamaican artist Derrick Harriott covered the same year with his band The Chariot Riders on his own “Crystal Records” label.

The result is a superior alternate Island version, a blend of Soul, Ska and Reggae, exactly the kind of Lovers Rock I like – Enjoy !
