The Super Eagles – Love Is A Real Thing

( Gambia , 1969 , Decca )

The Super Eagles” was a band of 8 Gambian & Senegalese musicians (West Africa) that joined together in 1967. They recorded a few singles on the Ghanaian record label “Ghana Film” and one LP on the english label “Decca“.

For today, I wanted to share with you “Love Is A Real Thing“, a beautiful Bluesy Afro Soul track with psychedelic accents taken from their only LP, recorded in 1969 during a tour they did in England.

The band splited up a few years ago, and some of the members formed a new band called Ifang Bondi (feel free to check to that post for more infos about that one).

Nothing to add, the instrumentation, the voices, everything seems just as it should be in this track, perfect – Enjoy !

Charles Rodriguez and The African Revolution – L'Amour Ne S'achete Pas

( Benin , 1970's , Decca )

Today, let’s make you (re)discover an obscure single from the Beninese artist Charles Rodriguez.

Charles Rodriguez, an organ player, used to play at the time with several well known Beninese musical groups, such as “Ignace de Souza and the Black Santiagos” or “El Rego et ses commandos“.

He recorded only 4 tracks, and “L’amour ne s’achète pas” (“You can’t buy love”) is one of them. In this song, Charles tells prostitutes on a heavy Afrobeat rhythm to stop drinking and selling their body, they are wasting their lives this way.

Strangely, this single has the “DECCA” cover, but was pressed specialy for an Nigerian music shop based in Lagos called “Alofty” in August 73 – Enjoy !
