Djelimady Tounkara & Le Rail Band Du Mali – Djiguiya (Mali, 1970s, Disco Stock)

For today, I wanted to share with you “Djiguiya“, a storming West African 10min long Afrobeat Soul Funk track with killer horns, taken from the 2nd album of the Malian composer & musician Djelimady Tounkara (one of the foremost guitarists in Africa).

Produced by the Burkinabe musician Amadou Sanfo, this song was recorded in the 1970s (I think, all informations are welcome !), backed by the legendary “Orchestre Rail Band de Bamako” and by written by Sekou Kante (one of the former musician’s of that mythical band).

One of the most beautiful West African track of the genre and quite impossible to find nowadays, hope you’ll enjoy !

Orchestre Rail Band De Bamako – Mouodilo (Mali, 1970s, EMI – His Master’s Voice)

Following this previous article, I wanted to share with you “Mouodilo“, a devastating furious Afro Soul Jerk Funk track from West Africa, recorded in Bamako (Mali) in the early 70s by the mythical Malian band “Orchestre Rail Band” originally founded and led at this time by the legendary saxophonist Tidiani Kone, an outstanding musician that was also a griot (a kind of religious leader/ influent personality).

Largely responsible for the birth of modern Mandingo music from Mali, the group was also called “Orchestre du Buffet Hotel de la Gare de Bamako” because it played there twice a week.

Pressed in Nigeria on the local branch famous label “EMI – His Master’s Voice“, the track presented here (my favorite !) is an early rough version of the 1973 “Moko Diolo“, also included in their second blue album – Enjoy !

Orchestre Rail Band – Moko-Diolo (Mali, 1973, RCAM)

Following to this post, i wanted to share with you for today “Moko-Diolo“, a powerful Afro Jerk Funk track taken from the second single released in 1973 by the Malian orchestra “Orchestre Rail Band” from this band that Salif Keita, Mory Kanté & Tidiani Koné were part of – Enjoy !

State-sponsored by the national railroad Malian Company (it explains the name of the band), Le Rail Band was the most powerful Malian orchestra, that released more than ten LP’s and many 7′ from the 70’s to the late 80’s.
The Rail Band’s leader was the great Tidiani Koné, an outstanding musician who was also a griot (a kind of religious leader/ influent personality), who decided to give his chance at this time to a young albino singer, Salif Keita, that would become world famous in the future.

Tidiani Kone Et le T.P. Orchestre Poly Rythmo de Cotonou – Djanfa Magni (Benin, 1977, Albarika Store)

Another Afrobeat / Soukous hit track by Le Tout Puissant Orchestre Poly Rythmo de Cotonou !!
Horns are played by the Malian musician Tidiani Kone, the bandleader, founder and member of l’Orchestre Super Rail Band du Buffet Hotel Del La Gare De Bamako (Mali), it explains the similarities in the trumpet playing between this track and “Mouo Dilo“, by the Super Rail Band.

The title of this awesome track, “Djanfa Magni“, can be translated in those words : “Betrayal isn’t good” – undoubtedly true, right ?
