Afia Mala – Koma (Togo, 1984, AM Production)

For today, I wanted to share with you “Koma“, an instant catchy balearic dancefloor Afro Boogie Funk track, taken from the 4th LP by the Togolese Diva Afiwavi Mawaulana Missohou (better known as “Afia Mala“) recorded in 1984 in Paris (her 1st album recorded out of Togo) at the mythical recording studio “Studio Harry Son“.

This LP features great musicians from France, Africa & the West Indies :

Arrangements, Keyboards, Synth, mix : Emmanuel “Manu” Lima ;

Bass : Michel Alibo (track : A2, B1), Miguel Yamba (track : B2), Emmanuel “Manu” Lima (track : A1) ;

Chorus : Jean-Paul Pognon, Marie-Céline Chroné, Sylvie Dray ;

Guitar : Lokassa Ya Mbongo (track : B2), Néné Fafa (track : B2), Yves N’Djock (tracks : A1, B1) ;

Lead Vocals : Solo Sita (tracks : B2) ;

Before releasing this LP, Afia Mala was severally rewarded through the African continent :

1974 : 3rd price of the Tologese national song competition ;

1980 : 2nd price of the Togolese Gold Star song competition ;

1981 : 1st price of the International Song Forum in Cotonou (Benin) ;

1984 : discovery listener’s prize of Radio France International contest ;

For today, I wanted to share with you « Bazombo », a massive dancefloor tropical Electro Afro Synth Funk track, taken from a single recorded in Paris by the Congolese composer Bovick Shamar (Bovick Bondo Gala, that was part of mythical 70s congolese bands such as L’Orchestre Veve, L’Orchestre African Fiesta & L’Orchestre Afrisa International) & a bunch of legendary Cameroonian, Senegalese & French musicians such as Jean-Claude Naimro, Michel Alibo & Jacob Desvarieux – Enjoy !
