Bob Jalil (Jalil Bennis) & L’Orchestre Star-Melody – Bini Ou Binik (Morocco, 1967, Polydor)

Following this former post, I wanted to share with you for today “Bini Ou Binik” (“بيني و بينك” or “Between you & I” in Arabic), a refreshing uptempo Surf Jerk Rock Mod track, taken from one of the 2 singles recorded in the 60 by the legendary composer & singer “Bob” Jalil Bennis, a huge fan of the French “Yéyé” Sound of the 60s who managed to merge it with the Moroccon sound of that era with an outstanding result – Enjoy !

This post is dedicated to Jalil Bennis’ memory, who sadly passed away on December 2022.

Ihsan Al-Munzer – Rasputin (Lebanon, 1979, Voice Of Stars)

For today, I wanted to share with you « Rasputin », a dope percussive Middle-Eastern Groovy Disco Synth instrumental cover of the interplanetary hit by the West-Indian band Boney M, recorded in 1979 by the legendary Lebanese very prolific composer and musical arranger Ihsan Al-Munzer, who sadly passed away recently on last 3rd of August.

This song was compiled on the record presented here, wich is a part of a Oriental series released in the late 70s on the mythical Lebanese-Armenian record label « Voice Of Stars », owned by the famous producer Daniel Der Sahakian – Enjoy !

Sayed Darwish (سيد درويش)- Arabesque (Egypt, 1975, Columbia)

Following to this former post, I wanted to share with you for today “Arabesque”, a dope Oriental Belly Dance Jazz instrumental Piano track with a funky swing, originally written by Sayed Darwish ( سيد درويش) a legendary Egyptian composer and singer, considered as the father of Egyptian popular music and that put music to the Egyptian national anthem “Bilady, Bilady, Bilady“, adapted from a famous speech by Mustafa Kamil (مصطفى كامل).

This track is taken from an ultra hard to find LP, never properly commercialized, only promotionally released in the 70s for tourist purposes, offered to the visitors of the great pyramid of Giza & Cairo’s Egyptian museum to make them discover Egyptian music – Enjoy !

Fairuz – Al Bosta (Lebanon, 1979, Zida) فيروز – البوسطة (Lebanon, 1979, Zida)

Following to this former post I wanted to share with you for today “Al Bosta” (“البوسطة” for our Arabic speaking friends), a splendid Middle-Eastern Jazz Funk track recorded in 1979 by the legendary Lebanese Diva Fairuz (فيروز or “turquoise blue” in English), composed and arranged by her eldest son Ziad Rahbani (زياد الرحباني), also one of the greatest names of Lebanon’s musical history.

This song is taken from the mythical album “Wahdon“, recorded during the same session than Ziad Rahbani‘s Masterpiece “Abu Ali“.

 I found that long time wanted piece during my latest record digging trip in Lebanon (august 2021), so lucky I felt on that day.. hope you’ll enjoy it as much as I do !

Mohammed El-Bakkar – Ah Ya Zain (Lebanon, 1960s, Pianophon)

For today, I wanted to share with you “Ah Ya Zain” (“آه يا زين“, that could be translated by “Oh you, handful person !“), a dope percussive Dabke (middle eastern drum) Folk track and a classic Arabic wedding song.

Said by many sources to be based on a portion of Turkish song “Muhabbet Bağına Girdim Bu Gece” originally recorded in the 40s by the musician Yesari Asim Arsoy, and covered a hundred of times through the years by many artists (Mohamed Qandeel, Sabah, Safiye Ayla, Omar Khorshid..), I decided to present you here my favorite version and probably one of its earliest in Arabic, the one recorded in the late 50s by the Lebanese composer Mohammed El-Bakkar and his Oriental Ensemble – Perfect to belly dance your dance floor, so.. enjoy Habibi !
