Armen Quintet – Yerazi Bess (Armenia, 1971, Self-Released)

For today, I wanted to share with you “Yerazi Bess“, a bewitching Jazz Soul Funk track with Bossa Nova influences, taken from the only LP by the Armenian/Lebanese band Armen Quintet, recorded in 1971 at the mythical “Thunder” recording studios in Toronto (Canada), and that was composed with :

Garbis Libarian (Vocals, Band leading) ;

George Kallibjian (Drums, Congas) ;

Jack DerMagerdijian (Flute) ;

Kevork Maroukian (Guitar) ;

Hagop Artinian (Arrangements, Piano, Organ, Saxophone, Bass).

A really beautiful but sadly really hard to find LP nowadays, so hope you’ll like it – Enjoy !

For today, I wanted to share with you “Huloul” (“حلول” or “solution” in Arabic langage), a spellbinding Middle-Eastern Soul Jazz track with Brazilian influences a la Arthur Verocai & beautiful flute parts, taken from the first album of the Lebanese band “Ferkat Al Ard” (فرقة الأرض) leaded by the guitar player Issam Hajali (عصام الحاج علي) and composed with :

Issam Hajali (عصام الحاج علي) : Vocals, Guitar ;

Toufic Farroukh (توفيق فرّوخ) : Flute, Saxophone ;

Elie Saba (ايليا سابا) : Bouzouki, Oud ;

This album, arranged by the legendary Lebanese composer, musician & producer Ziad Rahbani (زياد الرحباني) & produced by the Lebanese-Armenian producer Khatchik Mardirian (co-founder with Ziad Rahbani of the mythical 70s Lebanese record label “Zida“) is considered by many as one of the hardest to find holygrail Lebanese vinyl record album ever out – Enjoy !

For today, I wanted to share with you “Mimile“, a very beautiful Spiritual Biguine Mazurka Island Jazz track with a Bossa Nova twist, taken from a privately released & very hard to find album recorded in 1984 by the French Guyana native singer & poetess Josy Masse – look at this gorgeous cover art !

This song was initially recorded in the early 70s s by the Guadeloupean (French West Indies) Jazz composer Franck Valmont, really can’t decide which one is my favorite version so.. maybe I’ll share it with you in the future if you want me too – Enjoy !
