Mohammed El-Bakkar – Ah Ya Zain (Lebanon, 1960s, Pianophon)

For today, I wanted to share with you “Ah Ya Zain” (“آه يا زين“, that could be translated by “Oh you, handful person !“), a dope percussive Dabke (middle eastern drum) Folk track and a classic Arabic wedding song.

Said by many sources to be based on a portion of Turkish song “Muhabbet Bağına Girdim Bu Gece” originally recorded in the 40s by the musician Yesari Asim Arsoy, and covered a hundred of times through the years by many artists (Mohamed Qandeel, Sabah, Safiye Ayla, Omar Khorshid..), I decided to present you here my favorite version and probably one of its earliest in Arabic, the one recorded in the late 50s by the Lebanese composer Mohammed El-Bakkar and his Oriental Ensemble – Perfect to belly dance your dance floor, so.. enjoy Habibi !

Randa – Vive L’Amour (Lebanon, 1966, Parlophone Voix de l’Orient Series)

Randa was a Lebanese singer and actress who released a few singles in the mid 60s and in the early 70s.

The track presented here, “Vive L’amour“, is one of the song compiled on an Egyptian record released in 1966 and is a very innovative for the time, mixing Oriental rhythms and Occidental Jerk influences – Enjoy !
