Kimbundu Music – Teka Dya Kingudi (Angola, 1984, Centre International des Civilisations Bantu)

For today, I wanted to share with you “Teka Dya Kingudi“, a breezing & amazing catchy deep Afro Folk track, field recorded by the legendary French musicologist Charles Duvelle the 2nd of may 1984 in Luanda (Angola) for the Centre International des Civilisations Bantu (CICIBA), sung in Kimbundu (Mbundu tribe’s langage) and played on a xylophone.

The instrument you can listen there is a “Madimba” (a mounted 20-key xylophone with calabash-gourd resonators).

Two musicians are involved here : Amindo da Fonseca plays in the upper register, and Joao Francisco plays in the lower register in this musical composition in which the instrumentalists are also the singers, and which is usually performed during funeral services.
