Le Diamono – M’Diaye Kandiourane (Senegal, 1975, Soul Posters/Musiclub)

For today, I wanted to share with you “M’Diaye Kandiourane“, a stunning psychedelic Afro Mbalax Soul Funk Jazz track, recorded by the mythical Senegalese band Le Diamono (or “Super Diamono” or “Super Diamono de Dakar“) founded by the mythical composer & musicien Omar Pene.

This song only appears on that single out in 1975 and distributed only in Senegal & France at the time, and that is probably the first recorded of the group.

This song tells the story of three young people who left the village of M’beri in search of fortune, but who found nothing but disappointment along the way.

This debut single of the band is virtually impossible to find nowadays, hope you’ll like it – Enjoy !

Bana – Eternidade (Cape Verde, 1966, Pathé)

For today, I wanted to share with you “Eternidade“, a splendid melancholic early Afro Soul Folk Jazz ballad driven by gorgeous clarinet parts, one of the very first recordings of the legendary Cape Verdean composer & musician Adriano Gonçalves (better known as “Bana“).

Initially recorded in Dakar (Sénégal) in 1962 with the backing of another Cape Verdean legend, the songwriter, arranger and clarinetist Luis Morais and his Orchestre Du Saloum, the song presented here today is taken from this Pan-African compilation out in 1966 in the mythical French record label “Pathé” with this very cute cover art – Enjoy !

Etoile de Dakar – Cely (Senegal, 1978, M. Diaw )

For today, I wanted to share with you “Cely“, a gorgeous Psychedelic Afro Latin Funk Psychedelic Mbalax Fusion Jazz gem with dreamy voices, catchy guitars & deep saxophone parts, first version ever of this all-time African anthem covered countless times, recorded in 1973 by the legendary Senegalese Orchestra “Etoile de Dakar” that included great names as the mythical musician & composer Youssou Madjiguène Ndour (this album was his first ever credited appearance as a singer !).

This album, as many of the greatest early Senegalese ones (such as Orchestra Baobab ones), was recorded at the well-known Jandeer Night Club in Dakar (Senegal), one of the only few places musicians could lent at the times all the musical instruments & equipments they didn’t have themselves – Enjoy !
